Tables Turned

Friday of last week through this Tuesday I was in Chicago attending my yearly CHART (hotel and restaurant trainers association) conference.  I have been attending now for 10 years so it has become a yearly ritual for me, something I look forward to.  What I hadn't realized before, is that many of the CHART members that I see year after year have become like an extended family.

Just like with my personal relationships, I don't bring up cancer unless the other person brings it up, same goes for professional situations. First impressions from everyone was that my hair rocked, edgy and fun.  Then I think word started to spread (I don't mind) as to why my hair was short.  A day passes and I have an out-pour happening, of support...  I am so loved!  I say that not to brag about my life but to share what is incredible and humbling.  I had people that I look up to coming to me, embracing me with a huge hug and telling me how I inspire them.  Me, inspire them?  Something I have been getting used to hearing, something that I am working on, accepting that the last year, my health and happiness inspires others.

I enjoyed Chicago, I got away a little bit from the conference to see the city and take in their fabulous restaurants.  Always good to be home from traveling, however, I have noticed that lately I have traveled more days than being home in the last two months.  It feels free to me to be on the move right now.  Life was constricted for the past year so I guess I am relishing in the moment of having only the responsibility of work and health.      -K XOXO
