Why Running on Pink? Last October I ran my first half marathon, the same week that I started my chemo this year. As I have been processing this life change and all the new information and things that I am learning. I was at South Coast Plaza two weeks ago, turned to my girlfriend Katye and said that "I ran my half marathon with breast cancer." At the time I thought I would likely never know how long I had been living with cancer but figured it has been at least a year or longer. It was incredible to me to think about how long I have lived with cancer growing and how much I had accomplished.
Turns out... my oncologist said that I haven't had my tumor for any longer than six months. To put that timing in perspective, it was in the same month I was enjoying my travels in Italy.
It is a fast growing tumor, to get as big as it is now in that short amount of time is exactly why my Doctors have been moving so quickly and taking such great care of me. Started Chemo within three weeks being diagnosed with cancer.
Next year, come October, I hope to have just be finding out I am cancer-free and look forward to all the half marathons and runs that support breast cancer.
