BPA: Silver Lining, I Think Not

What is BPA?  Bisphenol A . Commonly found in lining of metal cans and in plastics (water bottles, baby bottles, food storage containers, soda and energy drinks).  The lining can seep into foods and drink stored in them.

New research from the Harvard School of Public Health reveals that people who consumed just one serving of canned soup daily for five days had levels of bisphenol A (BPA) more than 1,000 percent higher than those in people who ate the same amount of fresh soup.  These levels are "Safe" based on government agencies acceptable limits.

Basically, too much BPA exposure is linked to increased health risks. Based on the research I have done, we can't eliminate BPA from our daily lives, but we can limit it.  Until the governent regulates the use of BPA-we are stuck with it.

Ideas to limit your exposure:
+ If you need to purchase canned foods, buy brands that are BPA-free.  Like Eden Organic and Lucini Italia.
+ Don't put your plastics in the dishwasher.
+ Avoid plastic bottles that have the No. 3 or 7 on the bottom.
+ Don't microwave plastic containers in the microwave.  Use glass.
+ Use BPA-free baby bottles
